"Honored SEAL (LT. Michael P. Murphy)"
US Navy SEAL, LT. Michael Patrick Murphy. Medal of Honor winner for his actions that led to his death in the Kunar province of Afghanistan when he and his three-man SEAL team were discovered by local herders. Instead of killing the herders, they were let go unharmed but unfortunately, the herders informed nearby Taliban forces. Soon after the four SEALs came under fire by an enemy force who were about 200 strong. Murphy exposed himself in the open during the firefight in order to get a message out to their base because of the bad reception. In the process he was shot in the stomach and the back but managed to get the SOS out calmly before succumbing to his wounds. He was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously. This sketch is based on the picture of Lt. Murphy which was featured on the cover of the 2008 April issue of "Soldier of Fortune" magazine. I haven't done anything modern warrior related in a long time so here it is. Completed in early October 2008. Check out my other modern warrior sketches here: [link] and also my portraits: [link] |
